I'd never heard of overbooking-- and I don't think you should be able to do that. I'd planned that trip about 4-6 weeks ago, and they decided to cancel at 3pm while we were one our way to the airport. And didn't notify us. :(
I used to call early to make sure reservations were secured, but it's been a while since we've been in this situation. Normally, we arrive someplace and it's too early to check in! I'll be getting back in the habit of early notification again, though.
The rest of the trip was great, apart from withdrawal symptoms and that rocky start!
