But he isn't normally such a friendly bot. Reading between the lines, you can see that he usually just goes about his business and doesn't talk to anyone and they don't talk to him. Then periodically, he hits the robot version of a midlife crisis and wonders why he doesn't enjoy anything the way other people do, and how can he fix that?
Of course, the reason he doesn't remember the last time he enjoyed something is because that never happened, and he has no hobbies or interests because he gets powered down at the end of the day, and then powered up in the morning. It really IS work-work-work all the time for him-- he has no leisure time.
I don't know whether it's more cruel to create a robot that doesn't know it's a robot, and has a peculiar understanding of life, or to make one that DOES know what it is but never aspires to more because it has nothing to hope for!
