This was wonderful! I had no idea it was fiction until I saw the tag (I don't really know you, so I don't remember anything about your real family if you have written about them). But it was also novelistic. When I was 12 my mother read me Oliver Twist when I had the flu (a long story for another time) and I remember then noticing how many children in fiction were orphans and what fun it must be not to have parents. A strange thing for a child to think?
