Oh, heavens! That would be the most depressing ending ever!

Instead of telling the story of someone who is truly being beaten-down by the dullness of their life, I liked the idea that while he feels like that's happening... he actually shouldn't be aware of it at all! He can't quite remember those "better times" because they didn't happen, and he has no hobbies or outside life because he's offline when he's not working.

I liked the thought that his 'awakening' was actually a malfunction rather than an epiphany, and hinting at how his coworkers perceive his attempts to come out of his shell was just too much fun to resist. It would be kind of like having your Roomba suddenly stand up and say, "So, how was the weekend?" o_O

So glad you enjoyed it, and that it hit you in all the right places!
